Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
Long rumored but now finally confirmed by the folks at DC Entertainment themselves, Young Justice is headed to television.
Announced earlier today by Cartoon Network, Young Justice sports a roster of characters including Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis. Certain liberties have been taken with these characters, as CBR News’ Kiel Phegley notes, including Artemis sporting Arrowette’s likeness but not her code name. That’s a nitpick, of course — based on the art design alone, Young Justice looks like a worthy addition to DC’s fine tradition of animated excellence.
In addition to Young Justice, Cartoon Network announced MAD Magazine, an animated sketch comedy featuring “a chaotic mix of animation styles and twisted humor to pull back the curtain and expose the truth behind movies, TV shows, games, pop culture and, of course, curtains.”
“You can expect to see some familiar faces on screen and big names behind the scenes,” DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson described of the series. “The show will unleash MAD’s irreverent take on pop culture and today’s headlines, and feature classic characters including Alfred E. Neuman and Spy Vs. Spy. Our partners at Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network are helping DC Entertainment revitalize the cherished MAD brand across all media.”
DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns cryptically teased: “There’s much more to come from DC Entertainment … this is just the beginning.”
