Green Hornet To Get 3D Release — And January Opening
Hollywood’s latest technological fetish fixation has claimed another victim as Sony announced today it will release The Green Hornet in 3D. The decision forces the studio to move the release date from Dec. 22 to Jan. 14 to accommodate the additional work.
Before you groan about Clash of the Titans, The Wrap reports this (apparently) isn’t a conversion. Sony insists it can retrofit the film in 3D because editing hasn’t begun and the visual-effects shots haven’t been edited. What’s more, director Michel Gondry is said to have planned from the start for the possibility of a 3D release.
The Jan. 14 opening means Sony had to shift Priest — the vampire Western based on the Korean comics series — to March 4. It, too, is planned for 3D.
The Green Hornet, which the studio had been rumored to consider “a disaster,” stars Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Cameron Diaz and Christoph Waltz.
