Watch The New Trailer For Romero’s Survival Of The Dead

Although I’m not a fan of the zombie sub-genre, I’m intrigued by this new trailer for George A. Romero’s Survival of the Dead. Sure, it’s Romero — his sixth zombie film — so it automatically gets a second look. But I’m drawn in by the premise, which involves the power struggle between two families on Plum Island, off the coast of Delaware, which serves as a beautiful refuge from the zombie apocalypse.

I’m unclear why the two families, the O’Flynns and the Muldoons, apparently are Irish clans with the requisite accents — did I mention this takes place off the coast of Delaware? — but that only adds to the intrigue. I guess. Maybe there’s a Shyamalan-esque twist?

Anyway, the O’Flynns, led by patriarch Patrick, has a shoot-to-kill approach to the zombie plague, while the Muldoons, headed by Shamus, believe the walking dead should be quarantined in hopes that a cure may someday be found. Outnumbered, the O’Flynns are forced to exile Patrick to the mainland, where he meets a group of soldiers who return with him to the island … only to discover the zombie plague has gripped the island.

Survival of the Dead premieres on video on demand on Friday and in theaters on May 28.
