Anchorman Is Yesterday’s News As Sequel Hopes Fizzle
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was good, but apparently too filling for Paramount Pictures to consider following through with a sequel.
In the past several days, rumors have swirled that director Adam McKay could rally the news team of Burgundy (Will Ferrell), field reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), sportscaster Champ Kind (David Koechner) and meteorologist extraordinaire Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) together again for another broadcast. But sadly, it appears that Paramount is uninterested in the project.
“So bummed,” McKay wrote on Twitter yesterday. “Paramount basically passed on Anchorman 2. Even after we cut our budget down. We tried.”
Anchorman wasn’t exactly a financial giant, but it’s gained so much heat since release that Paramount’s decision to pass on a mildly budgeted sequel is somewhat baffling. With any luck, fan outcry and support behind McKay’s cause will cause Paramount to reconsider their stance on the sequel, a choice that’s clearly poorer than milk.
