Gremlins 3D? Not Yet, Says Director

With revivals and sequels being made (or, at least, discussed) for all of your favorite 1980s movies, is there any surprise that people are asking Gremlins director Joe Dante whether or not Hollywood is planning a belated third movie in that particular series?

Talking at the Cine-Excess IV convention in London, Dante said,

It’s been heavily booted around on the internet that there is a Gremlins 3 and then somebody said ‘Gremlins 3? Gremlins 3-D! I bet it’s a sequel in 3-D and I bet they’re gonna ask Joe to do it!” Well the answer is no, no and no… I’m sure it’ll happen. It’s too valuable a title to not get the remake treatment. I think it will be a remake rather than a sequel. I think they’ll start over and do a remake or a sequel.

Okay, first off: A third Gremlins movie in 3D would be awesome. Yes, I liked Gremlins 2 and no, I won’t apologize. Secondly: A remake? Really? Mind you, they have remade The Karate Kid, so all bets are off. Thirdly: Now I miss Phoebe Cates.

No more remakes! I already own Gremlins and I won’t pay to see a lackluster version of a movie I’ve liked since I was a kid.
Also, enough with the 3D. I’m tired of having to wear glasses to see a movie. I got contacts so I wouldnt HAVE to wear glasses anymore.
Finally, I would LOVE to see a third Gremlins movies, not a remake.
