Axel-In-Charge: Navigating the "Civil War II" Landscape, Bringing DMC to Marvel
We’ve seen nondescript photos from the New Mexico set of Marvel’s Thor, a post-credit spoiler from Iron Man 2, and even (briefly) a shot of The Destroyer. But now, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies, comes the first official still of Chris Hemsworth as the god of thunder.
Sure, it’s closely cropped and in shadow, but we’re still a year away from the movie’s release, giving naysayers — I say thee nay! — plenty of time to complain about Thor’s costume (which, as expected, looks to be based on the Olivier Coipel design).
The Kenneth Branaugh-directed film, which stars Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba and Anthony Hopkins, is set to open on May 6, 2011.
Here’s the official description: “The epic adventure Thor spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.”
