The Hurt Locker Producers Drop A Bomb On Pirates

If you’re among the tens of thousands who pirated The Hurt Locker online, you may want to head for cover — because the producers of the Academy Award-winning film are gunning for you.
THR, Esq. reports that Voltage Pictures has signed with U.S. Copyright Group, the Washington, D.C.-based company that’s begun pursuing torrent downloaders on behalf of a coalition of independent movie producers.
A multimillion-dollar copyright-infringement lawsuit is expected to be filed this week targeting individuals who downloaded The Hurt Locker, which leaked online some five months before its U.S. release. Despite earning six Academy Awards and countless other honors, it grossed only about $16 million in the United States, making it the lowest-grossing film to win the Oscar for Best Picture.
An attorney with the U.S. Copyright Group wouldn’t say how many people will be targeted, but THR, Esq.’s Eriq Gardner says we should “expect the number to be in the tens of thousands, if not more.”
