Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
She’s played Uhura and one of James Cameron’s Na’vi in Avatar, but Zoe Saldana’s latest role may reach a whole new level of geek cool; she’s in talks to star as an unstoppable killing machine in a new movie from the mind of Luc Besson.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog is reporting that Saldana is in “early negotiations” to take the lead in Columbiana, a movie to be produced and co-written by Besson and directed by The Transporter 3‘s Olivier Megaton. Her character sounds like Deadly Batman, according to the blog’s description:
Saldana would play a young woman who, after witnessing her parents’ murder as a child in Bogota, grows up to be a stone-cold assassin. She works for her uncle as a hitman by day, but her personal time is spent engaging in vigilante murders that she hopes will lead her to her ultimate target: the mobster responsible for her parents’ death.
After The Losers, I’d hoped that Saldana might try to find a different direction to diversify her resume. While this movie doesn’t do that, it does suggest a new career path as the female Bruce Willis, but without Moonlighting.
