"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" Trailer Officially Released
ABC has released a trailer for No Ordinary Family, the new series about a family that develops superpowers after a plane crash. Think of it as a television adaptation of The Fantastic Four, or a live-action Incredibles.
Starring Michael Chiklis (The Shield, Fantastic Four) and Julie Benz (Dexter), No Ordinary Family centers on Jim and Stephanie Powell who, after 16 years of marriage, decide they need to get away to reconnect with each other and their two children. While on a family vacation, their small charter plane crashes into the Amazon River and — well, I’ll let ABC take it from here: “But this is where the fun starts for the Powells, as they soon discover that something’s not quite right. Each of them now possesses unique and distinct superpowers. But saving and savoring their family life will be equally important, as they try to find purpose for their new powers and embark on a journey to find out what defines and unifies them. The Powells are a totally relatable family who happen to be a little bit amazing.”
I could’ve done without that last line … or two. Anyway, No Ordinary Family is obviously aiming to push all the right buttons for Family Viewing Hour, but this is where ABC may have doomed what could be an okay series — hey, it’s Michael Chiklis! — to an early grave: The network has scheduled the show for 8 p.m. Tuesdays, up against Fox’s pop-culture darling Glee. I don’t care how “unique and distinct” the Powells’ superpowers are, they’re no match for the students and faculty of William McKinley High School.
No Ordinary Family also stars Romany Malco (The 40-Year-Old Virgin), Autumn Reeser (The O.C.), Jimmy Bennett (Hostage), Kay Panabaker (Fame) and Christina Chang (24).
The pilot was written and executive-produced by Jon Feldman and directed by David Semel. Series executive producers are Feldman, Semel, Greg Berlanti and Morgan Wandell. Joe Hartwick Jr. serves as a producer.
