Nicktoons Takes A Shine To Teen Tony, Renews Iron Man: Armored Adventures

Given the ratings of the series’ first season and the box-office domination of the movie sequel, it’s no surprise that Nicktoons has renewed the animated Iron Man: Armored Adventures for another 26 episodes.

The 3D CGI cartoon, which premiered in April 2009 as the network’s highest-rated original series, follows orphaned teen prodigy Tony Stark as he uses an experimental suit of invincible armor to fight evil and honor his father’s memory.

The show has featured appearances by the likes of the Mandarin, Crimson Dynamo, A.I.M., Madame Masque, M.O.D.O.K., the Incredible Hulk and Fin Fang Foom in addition to recurring characters such as Jim “Rhodey” Rhodes, Pepper Potts, Happy Hogan and Obadiah Stane. The second season, which debuts in 2011, promises to weave in Nick Fury, Whiplash, Dr. Doom and Magneto.

I know it's not targeted to me (32 yr old), but does anyone over 13 really like this show? It went TOO juvenile and CGI from Reboot and Beast Wars seemed decades ahead of this.

I'm 28, and I love this show. The computer animation is a little annoying, I'll admit. It's not that great now, but it's gonna look really bad in a few years. But it never seemed to juvenile to me. The subplots were pretty complex, and I love it when a cartoon runs plot threads that last several episodes. And the complete lack of toilet humor was very welcome.

What are your standards of “juvenile?” The plots weren't simplistic, the subplots were long-running, death was present but not overused, and the character interactions were layered and developing. Sure, their Pepper was a little immature, but she was still a lot of fun, and immature characters are present in mature works all the time (see: virtually the entire cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
