No Joker In Batman 3, Says Nolan

Finally, the rumors about some kind of beyond-the-grave cameo appearance of Heath Ledger in Christopher Nolan’s third Batman movie can be put to rest.

Talking to Empire Magazine, Nolan addresses the long-running and, to be honest, slightly surreal, rumor that the Joker would appear in the follow-up to The Dark Knight despite Ledger’s tragic death:

There is the ever-lurking question about villains: who will The Dark Knight tussle with this time… Could it possibly be a returning (and recast) Joker, pulling strings from Arkham, Lecter-style, Empire wonders?

“No”, says Nolan emphatically and unhesitatingly. He resists elaborating simply because, quite understandably, he says, “I just don’t feel comfortable talking about it”.

It’s be churlish to say “Good,” wouldn’t it? And yet, good. Ledger’s performance was amazing, and the idea of somehow artificially extending that just seems… very wrong, somehow.

Johnny Depp should be the riddler, Tom Hanks should play mister freeze, Danny Devito should play the penguin again, because he is short, but not to short, poison ivy should be played by someone like Carla whateverherlastnameis, the one from Watchmen. that would be a great casting of stars

Your suggestions are what got the first stab at this franchise in trouble. Arnie as Mr Freeze, Jim Carrey as Riddler, etc. Johnny Depp is overrated and over-exposed. Don't need Tom Hanks in this. Just give me a great character actor, even a no-name and let the script take over. Big names can be too distracting and too ego-driven.
