Are Aaron Johnson And Anton Yelchin In The Running For Spider-Man?

Although some have presumed Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson might be a shoo-in for director Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class, 24 Frames reports the actor is on the shortlist for Sony’s Spider-Man reboot.

But Johnson isn’t the only new addition to a list that supposedly already includes Jamie Bell, Frank Dillane, Alden Ehrenreich, Andrew Garfield and Josh Hutcherson. According to the Los Angeles Times blog, Anton Yelchin, the 21-year-old co-star of Star Trek and Termination Salvation, also is being considered to play Peter Parker.

Johnson, who turns 20 on Sunday, has already played an ordinary teenager who becomes a superhero, so stepping into the Spider-Man role wouldn’t be much of a stretch. Yelchin, meanwhile, has demonstrated a great deal of range, from his early work in Along Came a Spider to more recent films like Alpha Dog and Charlie Bartlett.

However, the LA Times’ Steven Zeitchik notes that the addition of these names may not mean a lot, as director Marc Webb has been casting a wide net for potential actors. Screen tests will begin “shortly,” he reports.

Sony wants to begin production by the end of the year for a July 3, 2012, release.

    Not bad.

He would be a great fit.

Now THIS I could get behind. He sort of looks like an Ultimate Peter Parker in that pic.

See, the problem with Ultimate Spider-man as opposed to Amazing Spider-man is that he doesn't do deal with Satan and he might actually think abou this decisions before doing them. Also, the Ultimate Spider-man isn't a magical Spider-totem.

Oh man, I just can't read Spider-man anymore. I can't care about the movie, either. It's just the worst. I truely believe they killed the spirit of the book for all time. Thanks, Joe Quesada.

Charlie Bartlett is an awesome film

I thought I read that this Bell kid had it in the bag?

Anyway, this would certainly be an improvement. The only strike would be that we've all seen him already in such a similar role (Kick Ass, if I had to tell you).

guess sony learned to not rush things even to get the movie made before the rights are back in marvel hands plus marvel is proalby making sure spider man is done right. we shall learn who is going to be spinning webs when its time.

Aaron Johnson can totally play spider-man. He did really well pulling of the loser/geek/nerd charactar for Kick-ass. And what bigger loser is there that Spidey?

Johnson is a much better pick than that dude from Percy Jackson and the whatever!
