New Superhero Dance Show Looks Better Than Heroes’ Final Season

When I read the phrase “superhero dance show,” I cringed, too, envisioning a gruesome hybrid of Who Wants to Be a Superhero? and So You Think You Can Dance. However, The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers, the web-only series that debuts Wednesday on Hulu.com, actually looks — lord help me — interesting. Well, visually, at least. The content may be something else entirely. Think X-Men meets West Side Story.

According to USA Today, The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers — or LXD, as the cool kids say — consists of 10 eight-minutes episodes “with minimal dialogue” about two groups of rival dancers who … discover they have superpowers. Through their dancing abilities. All right, now that I type those words, the premise sounds even more ridiculous. But if you watch the trailer, you’ll admit that it at least looks good:

Right? But then you read the USA Today piece, which centers on Harry Shum Jr. — he’s Mike Chang, aka “the Other Asian,” from Glee — one of LXD‘s stars and choreographers. He plays Elliot Hoo, an average guy who … finds magical shoes. Yeah, I know. But it’s no more ludicrous than the “music-seeing” cellist in the last season of Heroes.

Actually the promo doesn't look too bad, I mean, it picked my curiosity at least, but that premise may be just a little too much.

and thus reality tv has morphed into now trying to make who wants to be a super hero merge with dancing with the non stars though the thing looks interesting.

  • Prophet Guard

Well at least it isn't superhero soccer players, mountain bike riders or athletes of whatever. Those would just look like crappy animes.

Good or not, that's a pretty classy bit of trailer they have going on there.

Personally, I think it looks awesome.

Quality production values, editing and music can make anything look epic. I honestly couldn't imagine watching a scene (let alone a whole episode) without it being ridiculous and cringe-worthy. I'm oh dubbya tee: out.

    Where are the heroines?
There's a female dancer in the vid, but she may be a civilian!

These guys opened up for the Glee Concert tour and I have to say there dancing is awesome. I think that they're trying to sell it as some Superhero show is lame. It's really just dancing with a wee bit of story. They have a guy who's really good at the robot. From the trailer it looks like he gets hurt and his girlfriend makes him part machine. Now he has a reason to be so awesome at doing the Robot. I'm looking forward to it. Plus, it's on Hulu for free.
