Chris Evans Talks Captain America Costume

It’s chunky, runs the risk of looking flashy and cool – That’s what Captain America: The First Avenger star Chris Evans thinks about his new costume as America’s favorite Nazi-fightin’ superhero. He’s also been talking about the shield…

Talking to Empire Magazine, the former Human Torch described how happy he was with the costume:

It doesn’t exactly breathe the way the Fantastic Four costume breathed, but it’s the way it should be. Any type of World War II uniform would be a little chunky, and I think that’s what kind of gives it its character… It’s an amazing costume. Given the fact that his costume is red, white and blue, and it’s tight, and it could be kind of flash and over the top – and given the fact that the movie takes place in the ‘40s and ‘50s – they’ve done a really good job of making it look really cool. I think everyone that’s going to see it is going to say, ‘Okay, well done. Well done. I think they got the costume right. The casting they completely ruined, but the costume they nailed!’

He added,

We’ve been testing a lot of shields. Last time I was in London they had six shields and I had to hold each one, see if I was comfortable with each one, see which one we all thought had the right look. The thing is pretty heavy, so I’m not sure I can throw it that far! I’ll give it my best shot, but hopefully they’ll have some sort of stunt shield when it comes to actually chucking it!

Stunt shield? I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a stunt Cap for those scenes, as well…

Uh… takes place in the 40's AND 50's??? Didn't WWII end in 1945? It does in every history book I've seen? Didn't Cap vanish (i.e.fall into the North Atlantic and get frozen in the Arctic ice near the end of WWII? He did in every Marvel comic I've read about him. So… uh… HUNH???

I noticed that too….kind of a mild spoiler….maybe they will show the commie smasher fake cap from the 50s….

Maybe they will have Cap dealing with some of the issues of racism and segregation in the US from that time.

One of the interesting glitches that they may have to address here is Nick Fury. In the Ultimate Universe, Fury is the first super soldier, experimented on because he is black and a convict. He escapes, but he has served his purpose as a human guinea pig. I know that Fury is in the Cap movie, but if they leave it in the 1940s-1950s, he can't be the man in charge – the US army was segregated during that time. African Americans would not have been in charge of any major project, let alone one as important as the super soldier/CA program.

Maybe he was just thinking on the fly, and didn't pay much attention to what he was saying. Relax.
