What’s Going On In Gotham City?

By the end of The Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne is a broken man. His longtime love is dead at the hands of the Joker, he’s failed to save Harvey Dent from the brink of self-destruction and he’s even taking on the public blame for Harvey’s death. Needless to say, not all is well in Gotham City for everybody’s favorite Caped Crusader.

That’s not the case for the status of Batman 3 however, as the film is reportedly on track for a 2012 release with filming set to begin in April 2011, according to Michael Caine himself. But beyond those sparse details and the knowledge that Nolan, his brother Jonathan and David S. Goyer are involved, little else is known about the third Batman.

But perhaps a title has emerged, as io9 uncovered a list of fourteen Batman-related domain names acquired by Warner Bros. in recent weeks and months. Some fans are thinking that one of these domain names could be the title for Nolan’s third Batman film, though another popular theory is that these are possible titles for the sequel to the Batman: Arkham Asylum video game. With Comic-Con just one week away, we’re sure to find out soon enough.

The sequel to Arkham Asylum already has a website. arkhamhasmoved.com

It's been up for quite awhile and even has a small trailer. But maybe they are creating a new site.

Studios tend to buy domains in huge batches. Watching for these batch buys can lead to a title scoop. I remember in the early days of the Star Wars Prequels, everyone thought the names Darth Maul and Darth Sidious were fake until Lucasfilm bought darthmaul.com and darthsidious.com. I'm going to guess the game will be called “Batman: Arkham City” to preserve the branding.

  • Mwedmer

sounds like domain names for the sequal to Arkham Asylum.

  • Thedailysentinel

These domains are for the sequel to “Arkham Asylum” not for the next Batman movie. “Mayor Sharp” was “Warden Sharp” of Arkham in the video game. Reason for the multiple domains is that “Arkham Asylum 2″ isn't the official name of the game.

  • Mythos

One of the URLs is “StopMayorSharp”; Mayor Quincy Sharp was a character created for Batman: Arkham Asylum that
turned out to be “the Spirit of Amadeus Arkham”, vanishing by the end of the game
.
The fact that such a minor character, created specifically for the games, is referenced in the URLs, and the fact that most of the names refer to “Batman: Arkham City”, both imply that this refers to the next Batman game and not a new movie.

Funnily enough, every website referred to this as a new game until Spinoff decided to make it ambiguous.

  • Lackshmana

This is clearly for the game.

  • Ste1bro

    Yup, it's for the game.

To make matters worse, Comic Book Resources are linking to this page, claiming rather excitedly that they've uncovered the first scraps of news for Batman 3!
