Saturday at Comic-Con International, Syfy brought together the casts and creators of “Eureka” and “Warehouse 13″ for a preview of the hit series’ new seasons. Panelists included “Warehouse 13″ executive producer/showrunner Jack Kenny and stars Eddie McClintock (Pete Lattimer), Joanne Kelly (Myka Bering), Saul Rubinek (Artie Nielsen) and Allison Scagliotti (Claudia Donovan), and “Eureka” co-creator Jaime Paglia, executive producer Bruce Miller and stars Colin Ferguson (Jack Carter), Salli Richardson-Whitfield (Allison Blake), Neil Grayston (Douglas Fargo) and James Callis (Grant).
Up first was “Warehouse 13″ in a panel moderated by “Eureka” co-star Neil Graystone, who announced that McClintock had been nominated for a Portal Award for best actor. He followed that news with a trailer for the show’s second season. A wave of laughter rippled through the room when McClintock’s character was hit in the face by a gladiator shield.
Not everything is all fun and games, though, as it appears that Pete may have fallen off the bandwagon in this coming season. Love is also in the air at the Warehouse, as it was announced that Scagliotti’s character Claudia will be getting a boyfriend. Lindsey Wagner (“The Bionic Woman”) also will join the show as a love interest for Rubinek’s Artie character.
During the question-and-answer session, one fan asked how big the Warehouse is, to which Kenny answered, “We never want to see the back of it, we never want to see the end of it.” He then revealed that this season fans will get a chance to see a another part of the Warehouse — an observatory.
With the end of the “Warehouse 13″ portion of the panel, Scagliotti stuck around to moderate the “Eureka” panel.
A lot of surprises are in store for the town of Eureka in this fourth season. Fans went wild during the trailer when a short clip revealed the return of Nathaniel Stark. The trailer also showed some footage of Scagliotti with Graystone as “Eureka” and “Warehouse 13″ are going to have a crossover this season. Fargo and Claudia end up appearing on each others’ shows.
There have been some changes in Eureka: Ferguson’s Sheriff Jack Carter has found himself an empty-nester, while Douglas Fargo is now in charge of Global Dynamics. “It is the worst idea in the world but the funnest thing to do,” Graystone said.
Some of the “Eureka” will go behind the camera this year: Joe Morton (Henry Decon), Salli Richardson-Whitfield and Ferguson will take turns in the director’s chair. Ferguson actually will be pulling triple duty, as he also will serve as a producer on the season’s final 10 episodes.
As far as casting news, Wil Wheaton (“Star Trek”) will be in a few episodes as Isaac Parrish, while Felicia Day (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “The Guild”) will join the cast for a multi-episode arc. Day briefly stopped by the panel express her excitement about appearing on “Eureka” before running off for a signing at the Dark Horse booth.
