Axel-In-Charge: Extending "Secret Wars," Excitement for a "Totally Awesome Hulk"
Mere hours after the announcement that Jason Flemyng has joined the cast of X-Men: First Class as Nightcrawler’s father Azazel comes the news that Damages actress Rose Byrne is signing on for the comic book flick as well.
Byrne is currently in negotiations to star as Moira MacTaggart, a Scottish scientist specializing in genetic mutations. She’s particularly close with Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), undoubtedly a major plot point for the Matthew Vaughn-directed X-Men prequel. Before Byrne signed on for the role, actress Rosamund Pike was rumored as a leading contender to star as MacTaggart.
In joining First Class, Byrne saddles up alongside a very full cast list that includes McAvoy as Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Alice Eve as Emma Frost, Caleb Landry Jones as Sean Cassidy, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Lucas Till as Alex Summers, Edi Gathegi as Darwin and Kevin Bacon in an unknown villain role. Filming is expected to commence within the next few weeks.
