Marvel Signs xXx Screenwriter For Iron Fist

Marvel Studios has hired xXx screenwriter Rich Wilkes to pen an adaptation of Iron Fist, Deadline reports, moving the fan-favorite martial artist that much closer to the big screen.

Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Iron Fist debuted in May 1974′s Marvel Premiere #15 amid a wave of martial arts-inspired superheroes. The character leaped into the spotlight when he teamed with Luke Cage in December 1977′s Power Man #48; with Issue 50, the title was changed to Power Man and Iron Fist, a name it carried until its cancellation in 1986.

Iron Fist, aka Danny Rand, rose to prominence again more recently in 2007 with the debut of The Immortal Iron Fist, the critically acclaimed series by Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction and David Aja. Although that title was canceled last year, Iron Fist has continued to appear in such series as New Avengers and Shadowland.

This is the second move toward the big screen for the character. In 2000, Marvel partnered with Artisan Entertainment to co-finance an Iron Fist film as a vehicle for Ray Park. However, losing a director and repeatedly shifting schedules, the project ultimately went nowhere.

    A xXx screenwriter? Strike one.

This should be based on the Immortal Iron Fist series.

  • Ken

I'd like to say that hopefully Ray Park is still interested, but chances are, they'll go with someone stupid like Taylor Lautner or Justin Bieber.

  • kwame

I hope they find a way to incorporate Cage, Misty Knight, and Colleen Wing.

  • Paine1416

    …the guy who wrote xXx..really?

  • troy

Why is it when every Marvel movie comes out people cry and moan about how they will probably cast “teen-idol-of-the-week”? What is this based on? It must be from when it NEVER HAPPENED, EVER.

  • ryan

I hope they have Brubaker and Fraction involved in the development.

If they want to get an inexpensive actor, I still think Tahmoh Penniket (Helo from Battlestar Galactica) would be great.
I also think Rampage Jackson would be a good choice for Luke Cage, if he's going to factor into the story.

  • The Snappy Sneezer

I know this is going to star Vin Diesel

  • VenomMelendez

Rampage Jackson as Luke Cage? Are you nuts?

I want the actor to play as Luke Cage to know how to act. Jackson doesn't look much like Cage anyway.

  • VenomMelendez

You're basing this one what? Besides, all the casting by Marvel have been excellent so far.

  • VenomMelendez

He's good choice, since this should be an action packed movie.

As for what series it should be based on, the orginally more than likely.

  • Qteam3d

Please cast Justin Hartley as Danny Rand and Eric King as Luke Cage. Please, Marvel? Please?

  • demoncat_4

at first one does not suceed try again. for Iron fist would be cool as a movie. even if they do not get ray Park in the role any more . and they can then follow with Luke cage and end with a power man and iron fist buddy movie then a tv show.

  • BrotherUnitNo_4

    Well, this should be interesting.

Don't be afraid to bring in a script-polisher. I mean xXx was mindless fun, but Danny Rand seems a mite more complex than Vin Diesel's character.

  • ryan

He can act- he's got enough charisma to pull off what would be required to play Luke Cage. And he doesn't have to look exactly like the character to be good for the part.

However, to be perfectly honest, Rampage isn't my first pick. I think a good idea would be to make the Luke Cage character older than Iron Fist. Seeing as how Luke Cage is such a strong part of his community, I think it makes sense to have the character be older, someone who has experienced a lot and done a lot to protect his neighborhood. Someone like Laurence Fishburne or Forest Whitaker can play an imposing presence against anyone looking to break the law, but also an inspiring figure to kids and families who live there.
Having Luke Cage as a friend, but also a mentor to Danny Rand, some rich idiot playing dress-up (in Cage's mind), would be interesting.

    First Iron F

  • Billyjack4170

More likely it will be Chris Evans as he seems to be Marvel's “Go To Guy” in their casting of films…

  • Cbred20

Michael jai white as Luke Cage
    Scott atkins as iron fist

  • Gornllg

    Strike 2. no Luke Cage????

How in the world did Iron Fist get a movie before Luke Cage??

    :grumble: :grumble:

Eu li Punhos de Ferro aqui no Brasil, e sempre achei um grande barato as histórias. Espero ansioso que saia logo no cinema. E, seguramente estarei aguardando daquí do Brasil!

    Até mais…

  • kwame

    Isaiah Mustafa as Luke Cage.

  • Jockmop

I was a huge PM/IF fan in the early 90s, when they had almost completely disappeared off of the Marvel radar. That they have both been in video games and are now seriously considered for movies seems almost impossible.

    I can't wait.

  • TVjoker

Marvel has only hired the guy for one movie though…they had nothing to do with FF

  • Jolewist

See you say that, but Taylor Lautner is an amazing martial artist, and he does have more acting experience than Ray Park

  • Man-El

    O mesmo aqui em Portugal.

  • http://realizandoseusdesenhos.blogspot.com/ Edson Palma

    Certo!

  • G-fro

Ray Park is good with martial arts but he is a horrible actor.

  • the_ace_of_knaves

Charlie Hunnam as Danny Rand please.
