The Office Might Replace Steve Carell From Within

Steve Carell

As Michael Scott prepares to leave Dunder Mifflin for good after this coming season of The Office, rumors are swirling about who might replace the outgoing Scranton branch boss. But don’t look too far outside the box for Carell’s replacement — if the writers get their say, the answer lies much closer to home.

“A lot of us want [to promote] from within, because we think we have such a strong cast, but we’ll see,” said producer Warren Lieberstein about possibly tapping one of the existing Office regulars to fill Carell’s soon-to-be vacant shoes. “I’m really excited about this season and seeing if there’s someone from within that we could promote. That would be amazing.”

There’s still a possibility that Carell could be replaced by a high profile actor who hasn’t already appeared on The Office — like the previously rumored Danny McBride, for instance — as no decision has been made just yet. Regardless of the ultimate decision, the show’s creative team is sad about Carell’s choice to move on, though they’re also hopeful about the future of The Office.

“I don’t know how you soldier on from Steve leaving,” said Lieberstein. “He’s such an amazing talent. He’s the best. He’s the best, honestly. But we’re kind of lucky, we have a lot of movie stars in our cast! Craig Robinson, Ed Helms, Rainn Wilson—and that Krasinski guy is not bad, and Jenna Fischer, she’s pretty great. I think the reason we’ve been able to survive as many seasons as we have is because of the supporting cast.”

they should promote from with in that way once steve character is gone they will not have to have some of the season post michel scott having the new guy adjust and learn how to run things. when having one of the characters who already can run the thing is easier.

I think promoting from within is a great idea. My initial thought was for it to be Dwight, but I don't think he needs that kind of authority…lol. They've already been there with Jim, so I'm not sure that'd be a good idea. I read somewhere that they were trying to figure out a way to bring Jan back. This may be a good way to do it.

I think actors like Steve Carell who ruin a fabulous show and, possibly jobs for their supporting cast are very short sighted. Many others who let their fame inflate their head, have not done so well, by thinking the grass is so much greener elsewhere. How many people in the real world up and leave a lucrative position after 7 years. I for one am very disappointed in Steve, and will never view him the same. Now I may view him as playing himself for the past 7 years, totally egotistical, and self absorbed.

ever heard of a little guy name Jerry Seinfeld? The Office has gone downhill since season 4. Carrell is simply exhibiting showmanship. If anything, he stayed on that ship for a few seasons too long.
