Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
The Captain America: The First Avenger script that actor Stanley Tucci likes so much will be rooted in the same intertwined, evolving stories audiences have been watching in other Marvel films. We already knew that. Director Joe Johnston thinks you may need to be a fanboy to pick up on how the film connects with them, Thor and Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, though.
“There are links between all the Marvel films, mostly ones that only the fans will pick up on,” Johnston told Comic Book Movie. “We have several subtle references to certain elements in Thor, but since Captain America is a period picture taking place in the 40’s, there are fewer opportunities for contemporary links to the rest of the Marvel universe. We can, however, create events in our story that will be paid off in Avengers and other Marvel pictures.”
So be aware, if there are any plot threads you don’t like that run through both Captain America and The Avengers, here’s the guy to blame. But I’m sure they’ll both be great.
