Vaughan & Chiang's "Paper Girls" Builds a Familiar Yet Disconcerting World
Appropriately, considering its title and subject matter, Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion is spreading across the globe, as the Ocean’s director’s pandemic movie is moving to Hong Kong to shoot important origin scenes.
Contagion – about the international spread of a killer virus – already has a suitably worldwide shooting schedule, with locations in Dubai, Japan, Switzerland, The United Kingdom, Brazil, Russia, and Malaysia as well as Minneapolis and Hong Kong, and a cast that includes Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Marion Cotillard. Joining that cast is Chinese actress Josie Ho, who’ll play the sister to Patient Zero, the man responsible for the outbreak by boarding a plane to the US while infected. The parallels to China’s SARS outbreak aren’t lost on Ho, who told the Hollywood Reporter that she plans to draw upon those memories for the role.
The movie will be released by Warner Bros. in October next year.
