Cowboy Bebop Derailed Due To High Budget

 

Keanu's Cowboy Bebop would have cost half a billion dollars, says the actor.

Keanu Reeves was set to strap into the blue tuxedo of Spike Spiegel for a Cowboy Bebop film, but the actor now indicates that an incredibly high budget has effectively halted the project.

“I haven’t heard anything back,” Reeves told Collider when asked for a Bebop update. “They turned in the script and it was very expensive. I don’t know if they’re going to…it would cost, like, half a billion dollars to make that script. So, I don’t know where it’s at right now.”

But don’t worry, Reeves isn’t slipping into Sad Keanu mode over the news. The actor has other projects lined up, including Carl Rinsch’s 47 Ronin.

“We are hopefully going to make 47 Ronin,” he said. “I think it’s [on] a creeping express train. Which means that they’ve done pre-production, we’re still working on the script, they’re done pre-viz, and they’re doing location scouting. It’s ready to go. It’s a bullet train in waiting.”

Reeves is also looking to make two romantic comedies, one called It’s Not Me It’s You and the other called Psyched, further down the line. He’s currently shooting Generation Um about a driver and his relationship with two call girls.

But, sadly, no Bebop, at least not on the immediate horizon.
