It’s Official: Kate Beckinsale Will Return For Fourth Underworld

Kate Beckinsale will return as the vampire Selene in the fourth installment of Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment’s Underworld franchise.

Written by John Hlavin (The Shield) and revised by J. Michael Straczynski, the movie is set to begin production in March in Vancouver. A search is under way for a director and for an actress to play Selene’s daughter.

Beckinsale appeared in 2003’s Underworld and 2006’s Underworld: Evolution but didn’t participate in 2009’s Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, which served as a prequel to the original film.

Although never critical successes, the low-budget movies have grossed more than $300 million worldwide.

The new installment will be produced by Lakeshore Entertainment’s Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi, and Len Wiseman, with Scott Strauss overseeing the project for Screen Gems.

Oh man I am so happy to hear this! No more are we going backwards we get to see the story continue into the future

  • Dorkarama

She's such a babe. Glad to have her back in the catsuit.

  • Ppreston1

I don't see how though? Glad to hear she's in but the storey ended the killed the brothers and their emortal father, and where no longer likens or vampires so where can this go now?

  • Shwa

I don't remember them ever saying that there were no more Lycans or Vampires. People mistakenly assume that. What they said was that since Selene had drunk from Corvinus, she has become something new. That's why she can be in sunlight and (presumably) now have a daughter. That's also why the film is called EVOLUTION.

Maybe her director husband can show her off a bit more in that rubber suit?
She's smoking hot show her off!

  • AJ Ryan

These movies were like watching Blade but without ever having Wesley Snipes show up to make the film watchable.

Pretentious euro-trash vampires in black leather who are all completely unlikable make for great villains and cannon fodder. But without Blade showing up and killing them its just so pointless.

  • hgd

Actually, you got it wrong. Wesley Snipes makes any movie he's in UNWATCHABLE.

The first two underworld films are definitely B movies but they're charming in their own way. Especially if one used to be a fan of White Wolf's World of Darkness

  • Knightwing

If they want a ten year old my god daughter would be perfect as Selene's daughter.

  • Shaun Rogers

As long as the movie isn't done in 3D!

  • kalorama

The Underworld movies are nonsensical, overblown, bombastic trash. And I love them!! Can't wait for this.

  • Badidea

The first film caught my attention. Was it a work of art? No. Was it an instant classic that re-worked the genre? No. It was merely entertaining, like movies should be. The second film took whatever decent plot the first film established and decimated it. The film was garbage. Plain and simple. As for the third film I will say only this wow. I never knew a movie could be made that would make Billy Bob the inbred, redneck, banjo playing moron from the hills of West Virginia look capable of better writing. The industry is pumping out trash movie after movie and we eat them up with smiles on our faces. Its sad really what they are willing to attach their names to just to make a buck.

How long before they inevitably announce it'll be in 3-D…

  • JJMeylar

Just to throw in some kudos: the characters were co-created by Kevin Grevioux, Len Wiseman, and some dude whose name has slipped my mind at this moment.

  • Khiaao

    Cool, luv that chick

  • lead_sharp

    Yep :)

    They are guilty pleasures!
