Del Toro Officially Unveils DreamWorks Animation Plans

He’s talked about weekly visits there before, but now Guillermo del Toro is ready to announce just what he’s doing with DreamWorks Animation – and it’s hunting trolls. Thankfully, not the ones that cause trouble on the internet.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, the Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth director talked about Trollhunters, an animated movie he’ll both write and direct for the studio:

I wanted very much to develop a story that could be written for kids but dealt with a genre that was scary… It essentially combines fairy tales with modern times and is about how difficult it is to be kid. Normally, kids are idealized in animated films. But the growing pains, married with the notion that there is a world right next to us that is completely plagued by creatures of ancient lore, it’s thematically fitting with the rest of my stuff.

Firstly: Awesome. Secondly: That’s not all he’s doing with the studio; he’s also acting as consultant and executive producer on a number of upcoming DWA movies, from this year’s Megamind to Shrek spinoff Puss In Boots and the sequel to Kung-Fu Panda. Somewhere, Disney – who are working with the director on a live action Haunted Mansion franchise – is very, very jealous.

Uh, Disney has got the Pixar people, I doubt they're jealous of anybody right now.

That said, Del Toro is a great director and he'll do Dreamworks a lot of good.
