Bryan Fuller Resurrects The Munsters

Critically acclaimed for Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls and Pushing Daisies, Bryan Fuller simply hasn’t had any luck in keeping his television projects alive for a lengthy period of time. But his next series could have a considerably better chance at survival: a reboot of The Munsters.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Fuller is spearheading a Munsters revival at NBC, where he has an overall deal. The network has reportedly committed to a pilot episode and horror mastermind Guillermo Del Toro is said to be seeking a role behind the scenes. Furthermore, the series has been described as “Modern Family meets True Blood.”

I’m not the biggest advocate of the reboot process, but from time to time, there are reboots that work well because of an original new angle or the aid of a compelling creator. Fuller is certainly the latter, and I’m intrigued by the pitch of “Modern Family meets True Blood,” as a fan of both shows. This could be a good time, folks — or, like many reboots, it could be an epic fail. With Fuller on board, however, the chances for failure are lower than usual… at least on a critical level, that is.

He's a better writer than a show runner. When he's the show runner it's doomed to fail.

I truly agree that Bryan Fuller is a better writer than show runner. Not to say this wont work, but if you have watched previous shows of his such as Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, and Wonderfalls, you will notice the sense of creativity and uniqueness, whereas resurrecting the Munsters is a 50/50 because there is only so much you can do to a retired, well known show.
