Fox Orders “Edgy” Family Sitcom From American Dad Producer

One of the producers from Fox’s American Dad cartoon (Or, as it’s called around these parts, “Family Guy but not as funny”) is breaking away from drawings and two-dimensions with new sitcom Connected.

Fox has ordered a pilot of the new show written and produced by Nahnatchka Khan, an executive producer on the hit Sunday night cartoon. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed blog describes the show as “an edgy family comedy about two families linked by their teens’ romantic relationship,” which for some reason makes me think that it’ll be a brasher, less subtle version of ABC’s Modern Family. As long as they have someone as funny as Cam, I think I can deal with that.

American Dad has actually surpassed Family Guy. It's legitimately funny and they often have stellar plots.

It's much better than Family Guy. No cutaways just for an easy shock value joke, none of Macfarlane's self-inserting his opinions through a character, and at times it's even thought-provoking and sweet.

Sounds like the Canadian sitcom “18 to Life”.

“which for some reason makes me think that it’ll be a brasher, less subtle version of ABC’s Modern Family”

    That's a reach.

American Dad is so much better than family Guy! It just doesn't get all the hype because it didn't come back from TV death. Without the abundance of stupid random references it actually gets to be satirical and funny.

@JacJac – It does sound like 18 to Life. Nice catch.
