Keke Palmer, star of Nickelodeon’s True Jackson, VP, revealed she has been offered a role in Runaways, igniting speculation as to which of Marvel’s teen heroes she might play.
The 17-year-old actress-singer made only brief mention of the movie in a recent interview with Essence, saying, “I was just asked to join a new Marvel comic project called, Runaways.” Unfortunately, no additional information was offered.
Created in 2003 by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona, Runaways centers on six kids who discover their parents are super-villains known as the Pride. Fleeing from their homes, the kids band together to learn about their inherited powers, defeat the Pride and make up for the evil committed by their parents.
Of the four female Runaways, Palmer seems a likely candidate to play either the extraterrestrial Karolina Dean or the witch Nico Minoru, whose original casting description led to accusations of “race bending.”
The film, directed by Peter Sollett (Nick And Nora’s Infinite Playlist) from a script by Drew Pearce (No Heroics), is set to begin production in January.
