The CW’s Nikita Needs A Man, Bosses Decide

The problem with the CW’s Nikita? Well, if you believe the network execs, it’s that Maggie Q isn’t getting enough love, and that maybe girls would like the show to be funnier, as well.

Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reported yesterday that Nikita will be undergoing “a slight tweak” in upcoming weeks, with the addition of a new CIA agent love interest (“Moms want to marry off their daughters to this kid, but he’s too busy saving the world,” is apparently the way that the character is being described in casting notices) and a lightening in tone for the gritty, glossy espionage drama. The reason why? Apparently it’s not doing well enough in the women 18-34 demographic, losing 54 percent from its lead-in, The Vampire Diaries, and that’s making bosses nervous. While I’m not against a slight brightening in tone, the moment this show becomes Alias in terms of its soap opera content, I’m out of there.

Glad to see the network is tinkering with something that isn't broken. Thursday nights are too full for me and it'll give me an excuse to stop watching something.

I know women 18 to 34 are CW's target but isn't the show doing very well overall?

This show is disappointing. Feeble characterizations and complete lack of subtlety. This show is the opposite of gritty: there is no real sense that Nikita is living on the run- her digs are too cool. The original Nikita was nuancec and retained a core of innocence- this one is flat. The original Michael (Bob in the film) was world weary; the old TV series Michael was textured, graceful, and deadly- that characterization was pretty incomaprable, really. This one is typically loud mouthed and petulant – you kind of want to give him a spanking. I want to like this show but….

I don't know that the Alias comparison as a put-down was necessary. Alias was not only a great spy/espionage show but some of the best tv in the past decade. Any show would be lucky to have the comparison.

    Damn straight.

Knocking Alias is totally off-base. It did last 5 seasons, had good ratings, and was always gripping. Something many genre shows would love to achieve but don't. Including several on the WB/CW.

I agree. Here we go again — execs making creative decisions for economic reasons. This has doomed SO many shows in the past. It was Lincoln who said you can't satisfy ALL the people ALL the time. (No, that was FOOL, but here it amounts to the same thing.) Nikita was doing great with a little help from time to time from Michael. Put in a love interest, and I'm afraid will, indeed become “Alias.

it's tough love…having to sit thru 3-4 min commericals every 5-7 min is beyond what's acceptable. i was so looking forward to this production. given all the adverts, i'm about to give up…love-be-gone.

As is, the show isnt great but its good. I can watch it and i dont care for too much on tv. It sounds like they are trying to do too much too fast. I think this “slight tweak” is going to lead to a “great downfall”

Tonights airing was an improvement. This should had been the first episode. They need to bring Nikita back into section like the original series and kill off the black girl and Alex. This is section, not cheerleaders camp. Madeline is perfect. Operations is growing on me, Michael and Bercoff need to be tweaked. Stop the comedy. There is a following that misses the USA show and this could fill the void if you toughen it up.

Where the f*** is cw getting their ratings from and how do they know how many females and 18 – 34 years olds are / aren't watching Nikita. They didn’t ask me or anyone in my household or my friends that also watch nikita. Also they don’t know how much people is in a household that loves the show. They also don’t know if my friends all come over to my house to watch nikita (which they do).

I am 18 and I Love Nikita, and i have friends that are older and younger than me that also love nikita, even my 8 year old sister loves it. We can’t even wait the whole week to see the next episode of nikita, we wish we could see it sooner.

And i agree with CALYPSO, it is tough love having to sit thru 3-4 min commercials (although it seems longer than that to me) every 5-7 min.

In all we are seeing 20 minutes of commercials. No wonder why people hate commercials!
