V Season Two Trimmed To Ten Episodes
The Visitors are still coming — they’re just coming a little bit later than previously hoped. And when they come back, they will be fewer in number, as ABC have decided to trim their second season order of V from 13 to 10 episodes.
Deadline reports that the decision was made for scheduling reasons:
ABC last week announced that V will return January 4 and will air in Dancing with the Stars’ result show slot at 9 PM on Tuesdays, following fellow sci-fi drama No Ordinary Family. That gives V a 12-episode window until the spring season premiere of Dancing on March 29, but I hear the period is expected to include 2 preemptions, leading to V’s order getting trimmed.
With shooting on the season currently ongoing, producers are said to have enough time to adequately wrap up the storyline for a proper season finale.
For fans of the series, to say that the news is a bit of a bummer is an understatement; V started hitting its stride in the back half of the first season, and from what I witnessed during my set visit at the end of the summer — a report you’ll hear about in the next couple of months — it appears that everyone is working hard to figure out what this show is and can be. Here’s hoping that 10 episodes is enough time to make all of it work, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t skeptical.
