Axel-In-Charge: Extending "Secret Wars," Excitement for a "Totally Awesome Hulk"
Variety reports that screenwriter Todd Farmer and director Patrick Lussier opened the door to a possible reboot by pitching an origin story to executives at Dimension and the Weinstein Co.
Based on a novella by Clive Barker, the 1987 film centered on a family terrorized by demons known as cenobites, led by “Pinhead” (Doug Bradley). Barker wrote and directed the original Hellraiser, and served as producer or executive producer on the seven sequels.
Barker will produce the reboot along with Joe Daley and Anthony DiBlasi (Dread, Book of Blood). Bob Weinstein and Matthew Stein will serve as executive producers. It’s unknown whether Bradley will reprise his role as Pinhead.
Production is expected to begin next year for a late 2011 or early 2012 release.
