NBC Sets Date For Superhero Drama The Cape, Airs Promos

NBC gave its new superhero drama The Cape a boost with a pair of promo spots that aired during Sunday Night Football. They were particularly well-timed considering that earlier today the network announced it will premiere the series on Sunday, Jan. 9, with a two-hour episode before it slides into its regular time slot at 9 p.m. Monday beginning Jan. 17.

In case you’ve forgotten, The Cape stars David Lyons (ER) as Vince Faraday, an honest cop on a corrupt police force, who is framed for a series of murders and presumed dead. Forced to leave his wife Dana (Life on Mars’ Jennifer Ferrin) and son Trip (FlashForward‘s Ryan Wynott) and go into hiding, Faraday assumes the identity of The Cape, his son’s favorite comic-book superhero, to take the law into his own hands.

The series also stars: James Frain (True Blood) as billionaire Peter Fleming, who moonlights as the killer Chess; Keith David (Death at a Funeral) as Max Malini, the ringleader of a circus gang of bank robbers who mentors Faraday; Summer Glau (Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) as Orwell, a blogger who wages war on crime in Palm City; and Dorian Missick (Six Degrees) as Marty Voyt, a former police detective and friend of Faraday.

Looks good. I would watch the first episode. A comic book inspired superhero with no super powers. A circus full of crime fighting types. I have to ask. What is the target audience? NBC is really stepping up with family oriented programming.

I hope it won’t be labeled as a genre show but rather as a family action-oriented drama.
Or it will follow TSCC path and die because of the lack of viewers.

The Cape looks amazing.. It’s like batman with a bit of zorro thrown in.. It’s nerdy awesome
The Cape maybe unoriginal but it has something Heroes doesn’t, “ACTION!”

Someone give Summer a show that lasts, damnit! Each time a show she is on gets canceled, she just does guest spots for a year or two before finding yet another show that gets canceled.

I’d really like to see what she can do with a character that has time to solidify.

It’s so great to see Summer in more stuff! I’m excited about seeing this.
The Cape is going to be an awesome show for Summer. We wish her and the entire cast the best while filming the upcoming episodes.

Its going to be fun to watch for all ages from kids to adult. :)

I’m looking forward to see Summer on a weekly basis again and hope she’ll have lots of success with The Cape.
The creator of the series, Tom Wheeler, is SO passionate about the show. I hope it lives up to his expectations and ours (or at least those of us looking forward to it)

I like the Circus angle, as it’s where he learns his skills.Think of the heroes who have been involved with the circus or were trained there.Robin, Hawkeye and Nightcrawler. He also gets his mask during the second episode.
