DC Comics' July Highlights: "Batgirl," "Nightwing" and a "New Super-Man"
The Avengers has raised more than a few eyebrows for its ambitious high concept: taking the stars of Marvel Studios’ biggest franchises and placing them all within the same movie. In essence, it’s a sequel to Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America, but the fun doesn’t end there — because according to Jon Favreau, Iron Man 3 is a sequel to The Avengers.
“In theory, ‘Iron Man 3′ is going to be a sequel or continuation of ‘Thor,’ ‘Hulk,’ ‘Captain America’ and ‘Avengers,'” the filmmaker told MTV News in a recent interview. Because he hasn’t seen a script for The Avengers and has only talked with the other Marvel filmmakers in passing, Favreau said he couldn’t even hazard a guess as to where Tony Stark will be when the time comes for a third Iron Man film.
“This whole world… I have no idea what it is,” he said of the Marvel cinematic universe. “I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”
Favreau also offered some insight into the Marvel Studios creative process: “The script is one thing, but when you actually see what you land on at the editing room — especially with Marvel where they film, cut, film some more and shape the film — you really learn as you go.”
