Axel-In-Charge: Navigating the "Civil War II" Landscape, Bringing DMC to Marvel
The success of Glee has pushed other television networks into considering launching their own musicals, and ABC is going all-out for their version, tapping an Oscar winning composer to come up with 2-3 original songs on a weekly basis.
The still-untitled project would pair eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (You might know his music from multiple Disney movies, like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin or this year’s Tangled) with lyricist David Zippel and Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives veteran writer Marco Pennette, according to Deadline. The series would follow a young female musician and her musician friends trying to “make their way in the world,” which sounds not unlike a sanitized Rent or all-singing, all-dancing Ugly Betty.
The project is still in development, but it’s hoped to be ready for a fall 2011 debut.
