Walking Dead TV Writer In Talks To Produce FX’s Powers Series

Brian Michael Bendis has confirmed that The Walking Dead executive producer Charles “Chic” Eglee is in talks to head up the television adaptation of the long-running comic series Powers.

“OK, I rarely do this,” Bendis wrote this afternoon on Twitter, “but the Powers TV rumor that hit the net today …  confirmed as fact!”

That “rumor,” originated with Vulture, which reported that Eglee, a veteran of such TV shows as Murder One, The Shield and Dexter, “has been circling Powers for months,” talking with executives at FX and Sony Pictures Television about becoming a writer and executive producer of the superhero police procedural. Eglee’s interest in Powers goes far in explaining his departure from the AMC series.

Created by Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, Powers follows the lives of Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, homicide detectives who investigate cases involving “powers” (people with superhuman abilities) in a world where superheroes and supervillains are common.

FX executives are said to be “very high” on Powers — in fact, network President John Landgraf described it as “a great property, a really robust property” back in January. He also mentioned “a really, really good writer who got really excited about the project,” and was working with Bendis, which makes me wonder whether Eglee’s involvement with Powers goes back almost a year.
