Wahlberg Isn’t Locked For Uncharted Adaptation?
The actuality of a David O. Russell-directed and Mark Wahlberg-starring adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune has been cast into doubt based on recent comments from an interview with game director Justin Richmond. Speaking with Joystiq, Richmond said that recent comments of a “family” oriented storyline that would have starred Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci as Nate Drake’s father and uncle are simply untrue.
“First of all, all that stuff was denied by David O. Russell,” Richmond said. “He actually called us up and was like, ‘I don’t know what these guys are talking about.’”
The Joystiq article goes on to say that “Mark Wahlberg isn’t anywhere near to being confirmed to play Nathan Drake either — it’s just Hollywood scuttlebutt, apparently.”
While the initial rumor of Wahlberg, De Niro and Pesci’s involvement was a bit hard to swallow, it became a lot more palatable when Wahlberg himself started speaking out about the plot. At the very least, Wahlberg’s involvement seemed fairly firm — now comes word from the game developer that he’s not locked and loaded for Nate Drake? Who knows how it’ll shake out, but after watching yet another brilliant collaboration between Russell and Wahlberg on The Fighter, I’m certainly hoping he stays on board (unless they can snag Fillion, of course).
