Young Justice officially debuts tonight on Cartoon Network with a rebroadcast of the first part of “Independence Day,” the hour-long pilot that originally aired in November. The conclusion will be shown next week.
From there the animated series, which centers on the proteges — “Don’t call them sidekicks,” the show’s slogan reminds us! — of the Justice League, charges on with new episodes, beginning with Jan. 21’s “Welcome to Happy Harbor.” (MTV’s Splash Page has the first look at that episode’s villain Mister Twister, an updated version of one of the Teen Titan’s earliest foes, whom Young Justice mistakenly believes is their mentor Red Tornado testing them.)
As established in the pilot, Young Justice — Aqualad, Kid Flash, Miss Martian, Robin, Superboy and, eventually, Artemis — will serve as a covert-operations team for the high-profile Justice League, training with Black Canary between missions assignments from Batman, all under the watchful eye of Red Tornado.
If you’re itching to get a jump on tonight’s episode, you can watch the first six minutes, and an additional clip, below. Young Justice airs tonight at 7 ET/PT on Cartoon Network.
