UPDATED: Lena Headey Plagued By Dredd

Here’s one reason not to dread the impending Judge Dredd film: actress Lena Headey—Sarah Connor in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Queen Gorgo in 300, among other roles — has apparently won the role of the film’s lead villain.

The news comes to us from Judge Dredd Movie News by way of Bleeding Cool, who admits that official word has not yet broken on the casting. However, Bleeding Cool points out that the Judge Dredd fansite has a reliable track record so far. If Headey really is joining the cast, the beautiful but deadly actress will take on the role of Madeline Madrigal, also known as Ma-Ma, a gang leader who over runs the Peach Tree City Block, where most of the film’s action takes place.

Judge Dredd first appeared as part of the British anthology series 2000 AD in 1977. Currently, the ongoing strip is the magazine’s longest running. A one-man judge, jury and executioner, Judge Dredd first got the movie treatment in 1995 with Sylvester Stallone and Rob Schneider. Fans pretty much disavow themselves from that film, a commercial and critical failure. However, the new movie, simply titled Dredd, looks to keep the heart and tone of the comic, going with a darker, noir style. Karl Urban plays the title role with Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson, a character whose original supporting role in the comic grew into her very own ongoing series.

Pass judgment on Dredd in 2012 when the film blasts into theaters.

UPDATE: The Playlist confirms that Headey has landed the role of Madeline “Ma-Ma” Madrigal in Dredd.

I’m willing to give this one a chance. Hell, I watch every comicbook movie if they bring it to my country, and Dredd is among my favorite characters!

There better be lots of dead bodies, not dead booty.
