ABC Gives Thumbs Up To Pilot For Charlie’s Angels Remake

Prepare to say, or at least hear, “Good morning, Angels” once again, because ABC has officially greenlit the pilot for the long-brewing Charlie’s Angels reboot.

Initially mentioned in November 2009, the remake of the 1970s pop-culture phenomenon gained momentum in May when Smallville collaborators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar were brought as writers-producers, replacing Josh Friedman. Entertainment Weekly reports there’s an offer out for Mark Piznarski (Gossip Girl) to direct the pilot, which will be shot in Miami.

The original Charlie’s Angels aired on ABC from September 1976 to June 1981, becoming a runaway hit in its first three seasons before declining sharply in popularity for its final two. The series transformed the three original Angels, Farah Fawcett, Kate Jackson and Jaclyn Smith, into superstars, and spawned a cottage industry of related merchandise, from dolls and posters to board games and novelizations. It also inspired the 2000 movie Charlie’s Angels and the 2003 sequel Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.

The TV remake is executive-produced Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen, producers of the big-screen revivals, and Leonard Goldberg, one of the producers of the original series.

Ugh, I wish they’d come up with something new.

Not a suprise considering the sucess of the H5-0 reboot at CBS. I’m fine with this actually as long as they dial down the campy factor of the orginal show and play up the action adventure aspect. I’d make Bosley more of a badass (with a back ground as mysterious as Charlie himself) who
trains the Angels rather than as comic

Yet another reason why ABC could have passed on Wonder Woman, can’t have too many TV series with female leads.
