Why The Russos Are The Best Thing to Happen to the MCU Since Joss Whedon
If Screen Gems’ president has his way, actor-model Alex Pettyfer will soon headline yet another movie based on a popular young-adult book franchise.
Vulture reports that studio chief Clint Culpepper is only interested in greenlighting director Scott Charles Stewart’s adaptation of the urban fantasy The Mortal Instruments if Pettyfer signs on. Negotiations are expected to begin this week.
Author Cassandra Clare’s bestselling series, which debuted in 2007 with City of Bones, centers on 15-year-old Clary Fray, who witnesses what she believes to be a murder in a New York City club, only to be swept into a world of tattooed demon-hunting Shadowhunters, werewolves and fairies. Pettyer would star as the sarcastic Shadowhunter (and love interest) Jace Wayland, opposite Lily Collins (Priest, The Blind Side).
The 20-year-old Pettyfer is an old hand at the YA-novel game, getting his big break in 2006’s Stormbreaker, based on the first installment of Alex Horowitz’s popular Alex Rider adventure series. He stars next month in I Am Number Four, D.J. Caruso’s adaptation of the science fiction novel by Jobie Hughes and James Frey.
