A Close-Up Look At Spider-Man’s Full Costume, Complete With Mask

Following days of blurry photos from the Los Angeles set of Spider-Man, MTV’s Splash Page has the first clear, close-up look at the wall-crawler’s full costume, including his mask and those shiny metal discs.

Before anyone gets too excited, or upset, note that what we’re seeing is likely a slightly less-detailed version of the costume designed for stunt shots (much like the photo that emerged in September from the set of Captain America: The First Avenger).

Swing by Splash Page to see details of the mask, gloves and web-shooters.

The Marc Webb-directed reboot of the Sony franchise stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Irrfan Khan, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Campbell Scott, C. Thomas Howell, Julianne Nicholson and Annie Parisse. The film, which began production last month, will be released on July 3, 2012.

Spidey rocks the ballet slippers. Huh?

    Oh dear…

    That… That’s not good.

You just DON’T mess with a classic look, Sony. There’s a REASON why Spidey’s original costume is so iconic and enduring. That… That’s just hideous on every possible level.

Andrew Garfield is pretty great at playing younger parts. He looks teens but brings a touch of maturity to make him add a bit of substance to his storytelling. I had more trouble with Maguire b/c he looked even older bulked up. It was like the 90s 90210.

WTF is this crap? That is the single worst redesign I’ve ever seen.

Hollywood, where design means overdoing everything and never stripping down. “Let’s give him a stripe down the arms and legs, and make it look like he’s wearing silver ballet slippers, and make those webs hard to see, and his eyes should be pink! It’ll be FABULOUS!”

From the looks of things, the fact that Sony will “have the license” to Spiderman is roughly the same as me “having a license” to fish. It doesn’t mean either one of us knows what the hell we are doing with it.

come to think of it,this probably why its being leaked long before the film release.

For a second, I honestly thought it was an action figure. Fail on hollywood (and a little on myself).

Everyone crying about this is either a moron or not a fan of the comic books. Many are probably both. The costume changes all the time in the frelling comics, you dolts. As well, this is CLEARLY a stunt shot. Did you see the close up the the costume? If this costume is used in the film as such, it’s probably an early costume. The official shot of Garfield in the costume showed a clearly darker and more detailed version. I’m going to say that this costume is made for the stunt. Have you people heard of CGI? Clearly not, because you’re all whining like little girls.
