<i>Battlestar Galactica</i> Prequel Script Review Suggests A Solid Successor

If you’re burned out on the Battlestar Galactica brand, perhaps Blood & Chrome will bring you back on board — according to a new script review, the upcoming prequel series is bringing the goods.

The folks at io9 have gotten their hands on some script pages from the two-hour Blood & Chrome pilot episode, which details William “Husker” Adama’s first mission as a young Raptor pilot. Supporting characters include comms officer Coker Fasjovik and the previously reported software genius Beka Kelly, both of whom accompany Adama on his first mission since completing training as a pilot. Not only do we learn where and how Adama earned his Husker call sign, viewers are also treated to the eventual admiral’s first look at the Galactica, a whole lot of “war porn” and even some surprising character deaths.

“The best thing I can say about Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome is that it feels like BSG,” writes Charlie Jane Anders. “More than the BSG TV movies, more than Caprica, this feels like the gritty, intense show about real characters in impossible situations that we fell in love with. Of course, this time around, we’ll know how everything turns out in advance — but the journey may actually be pretty gods-damned compelling, judging from these pages.”

The only surprising character death would be if Bill Adama dies, and we learn that yet another Adama brother becomes our beloved Admiral Adama.

Caprica for Dummies… I mean, Blood & Chrome, sounds like a dumb down version of Caprica for people who couldn’t wrap their brains around what that show was about.

“War Porn” over anything Caprica tackled is probably more appealing to the average folk.

Since virtual beings don’t age, hopefully we’ll get some resolution to the Tamara and Zoe characters, as well as what happened to the Graystones and Adama.

    Yawn.

The entire brand became completely irrelevant when Moore and the other writers started believing the hype. A great show turned into an endless series of navel-gazing nonsense at that point.

I’m glad I sold all of my BG stuff on eBay … at least I got **something** back.

I’ve been re-watching Sci-fi’s BSG on Netflix lately and it is still an amazing show imo! I really liked Caprica too. It was a slower paced show than BSG, but I’m pretty sure if it had been given more of a chance it would have become as good or maybe even better than BSG. I still miss the both shows. I want to see those final five episodes of Caprica on dvd sooner or later (missed them when they aired on TV).

As for Blood & Chrome, I hope its great. I’d love to see a new BSG outerspace drama. I did miss all the action & space stuff in Caprica. Hopefully Blood & Chrome will be as well written and acted as BSG. Though I do hope we get some hints as to what happened after Caprica ended too.

Ya, I’m looking forward to this. Here’s hoping it works and goes to series. Syfy really needs this right now imo. I like Eureka & Warehouse 13, but those two shows are not enough to make Syfy a compelling network (fun shows, but their not BSG, Universe, or Caprica). Now with Universe & Caprica out, Syfy needs to add more cool shows to their lineup (and less reality stuff. lol). Hopefully Blood & Chrome will work out and give us another great show to watch on the network.
