Will Ferrell Swings By The Office
We already know that Steve Carell is leaving The Office a few episodes earlier than expected, but what are the currently airing season’s final episodes going to look like without Michael Scott lording over Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch? Well, even without him, we’ll have some Anchorman action to enjoy: Deadline reports that Will Ferrell is set for a four-episode guest arc on The Office to help fill the void left by Carell’s outgoing character.
According to the report, Ferrell will play a Dunder Mifflin branch manager from the home office who comes to Scranton in Scott’s place, though he’s “just as inappropriate” as the show’s current leading man. An already fun bit of casting, Ferrell’s involvement is even more exciting considering that the actor himself reached out to NBC and The Office executives about the role, not the other way around. Apparently, the comedian is a fan and he “wanted to commemorate Carell’s swan song by taking part in The Office star’s seventh and final season on the show.” Pretty neat, huh?
“We found Steve Carell when he was nothing but a movie star and we turned him into a television star,” executive producer Paul Lieberstein joked with Deadline of Ferrell’s casting. “We are proud to continue The Office’s tradition of discovering famous talent, and we hope that once America gets a good look at Will, they’ll see what we see, tremendous raw sexuality.”
