Empire Debuts Captain America Cover, Teases New Movie Still

Empire magazine has unveiled the star-spangled cover for its March issue, which features a new photo of Chris Evans in costume from Captain America: The First Avenger. (Granted, it appears to be the product of the same shoot that produced the image used by Entertainment Weekly last fall, but still …)

“I think he’s the ideal human,” Evans says of the Sentinel of Liberty. “Not just American. It’s what being a good person is. Steve’s managed to overcome all the shortcomings he’s had in life and he does what’s good and what he believes is right.”

The magazine also offers a rundown of the contents in the March issue, which include another new shot of Evans in costume (above) — we’ll likely see a larger version surface online soon — and previews of X-Men: First Class, Sucker Punch and more.

Directed by Joe Johnston, Captain America: The First Avenger stars Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Stanley Tucci, Dominic Cooper, Neal McDonough and Tommy Lee Jones. It opens on July 22. The first trailer will debut Feb. 6 during Fox’s Super Bowl telecast.

That’s the best stills I’ve seen so far.

I like the costume, but Chris still doesn’t look the part to me. Where is our square-jawed Steve Rogers?

  • castle grayskull

Howie Long has always looked like Captain America to me.

  • sarah p

Hope there’s a nude Chris Evans scene.

  • TheBoyWonder

    This looks absolutely fantastic.

    Ahahahahaha
He looks like an action figure.

I just hope they change that fugly costume come the Avengers film. Also, how does his indestructible shield have bullet marks on it? Perhaps this is shield 1.0?

  • Anonymous

The shield is indestructible, not the paint.

  • Alewar

He does have the build and the look to play Steve Rogers, however he doesn’t have the neck. Seriously he should have a wider neck to match his traps. He’d look more imposing.

I’m honestly more interested in if there’s actually a new Matrix, any news about the Alien prequel, and what they’re doing to rehash the same section of Star Wars history…
Not that I’m not excited about Captain America, but its like, we’ve seen the costume a few times at this point, you know?

Not really a BIG “Chris Evans” fan. In all his films he tries TOO hard to be sarcastically funny. I’m still not convinced he’ll do the a good job. But time will tell.

    Summer’s biggest superhero? Mwahahahahahahh

  • Ted

Who said it’s indestructible anyway? Movies don’t exist in comic book continuity, so the shield isn’t indestructible until they say it is in the movie itself.

  • ShadowVoyd

OK Ryan, I’ll help. The Matrix sequels? A hoax. Keanu Reeves never spoke at the London School of Performing Arts. An apparently bewildered rep from the school and studio reps confirmed he wasn’t there, so the tipster who played Harry Knowles at AICN manufactured the whole thing.

The Alien prequel is no longer an Alien prequel. It’s now a new stand alone concept called Prometheus that grew out of the various prequel iterations Scott and co. were creating. Scott said the film would have some of the “DNA” of the Alien films, so I’m hoping that means he’s retained H.R. Giger to develop new original designs this film as well as the baseline concept.

Star Wars…. is still cartooning on Cartoon Network and dropping Blu-rays in September.

Apparently you haven’t seen the 9 zillion comic covers showing the shield shattered and broken ;>)
