Friday The 13th, Part 2, Monster Squad, TMNT Are Still Coming

When a press release won’t get the job done, Twitter is always there with fresh updates from the people who matter. People like Bradley Fuller, co-founder of Platinum Dunes. He was all about giving updates this weekend on a number of the company’s upcoming projects. First, the bad news: it looks like there’s nothing new to report on the Nightmare on Elm Street front. Fuller

Fortunately, that the sub total of bad news. Things are looking much better for Friday the 13th, Part 2, Monster Squad (WOO!!!) and a sequel to 2007′s TMNT. Jason Voorhees’ return sounds like it’s the furthest along of the three, pending a studio greenlight. “[Writers Damian] Shannon and [Mark] Swift wrote a great script. We are ready to go, when New Line is ready. But as of yet, they are not ready.”

The other two are still being scripted. For TMNT, Fuller promised “many more details… in 4 to 6 weeks.” Hopefully the same holds true for Monster Squad, as he expects to have a script in the “next few weeks.” All of which is great news. Which of these are you most looking forward to?

Is this coming MONSTER SQUAD a remake or a sequel?

  • Westside_goth

No to Monster Squad remake. No to anymore Friday the 13th. Thankfully no news on a new Elm Street flick since the remake/reboot was the worst in the series. That’s right. Worst than the second film which people call the gayest horror film of all time.

    ‘Meh’ on TMNT.

Awwwww…. you’re killing me. I figure there’s no reason to fight the coming tide of remakes/reboots/late sequelizations anymore, so I might as well just go with it. And as long as any new Monster Squad movie makes some reference to Wolfman and his ‘nards, I’ll be satisfied.

I just can’t tell if what I’m saying here counts as words of hope or simply the insane ramblings of a beaten man.

I was rather impressed with TMNT, looking forward to another CG Turtles film. I wish a bigger deal had been about Turtles Forever which was awesome on it’s own if only to satisfy my 8 year old psychological self.
The Monster Squad remake could be good but if it turns into a Twilight teenfest then I’m out for good.
Don’t care about Friday or Nightmare, never have, never will.

I just read two books written author Larry Corriea called Monster Hunter International and the follow up Monster Hunter: Vendetta. This urban fantasy/horror series would be great to build a film franchise (or TV show) around. A damn sight better idea that any of these fucking retreads.

  • Jacob

There is no TMNT sequel. They’re rebooting the franchise.

And the entirety of the 2003 Turtles kicked ass. Not so much with the sequels/spin-offs, but the five seasons of that show were just amazing.
