First Trailer For Green Lantern: Rise Of The Manhunters Game

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment have released the first trailer for Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, the action-adventure video game set to debut this summer in conjunction with the feature film.

Officially announced in July at Comic-Con International, the game will be available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and Nintendo DS. Here’s the official description:

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is inspired by the feature film, which brings the enduringly popular DC COMICS SUPER HERO to the big screen for the first time and which stars Ryan Reynolds in the title role as HAL JORDAN, the newest member of the GREEN LANTERN CORPS. In the videogame players will utilize over a dozen constructs and take flight across the deepest parts of the Universe to restore intergalactic order by wielding the ultimate weapon: the Green Lantern power ring.

Directed by Martin Campbell, Green Lantern stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, Peter Sarsgaard as Hector Hammond, Mark Strong as Sinestro and Angela Bassett as Amanda Waller. The film arrives in theaters on June 17.

    @Pokornys – I thought Green Lanterns couldn’t will guns.

Green lanterns could always create guns or whatever they wanted, and use them to kill if it came to it, there was always consequences though. It’s just they CHOSE not to. Having the most creative weapon in the universe they always had other options and they used them. They were creative that way. John Stewart was an Architect, he never made guns.
For whatever story telling reasons, Geoff Johns retconned it in so that instead of them willingly not using guns and killing, it became that they weren’t allowed to kill. Just so he could write a story where the supposed “ban” on killing was suddenly lifted. But that was never the case, many GLs had killed, amongst them Guy Gardner who had no qualms about killing, even when there were other options.
But if them “Killing” is what you’re concerned about? Know that these are Manhunters, they are machines. Whether they have evolved sentience has always been an on-going story.

Game trailers for movie based games are usually fairly cool since they allow us a slightly sideways glance at what things in the movie will kinda look like, such as Killowog in THIS trailer. (Sounds like Kevin Michael Richardson doing the game voice here, which is a good choice.)

Still, after game trailers like that ones for “BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY” or “TRON: Evolution” that are better then some MOVIE trailers, other studios are really gonna have to up their game, pun intended.

Looks great, Can’t wait for this game… I’m not expecting brilliance form a tie-in game but playing as a green lantern is good enough for me. Even better if they would let you create your own Lantern… but maybe thats asking too much.

Am I the only one that thinks Green Lantern doesn’t work as a game character AT ALL due to his powers being being based on will? You’re stuck with predetermined uses of the ring instead …

This game looks pretty, damn cool!

I think there is nothing more boring than watching Green Lantern beat enemies by using his ring to fire bursts of energy. Kind of defeats the point of the whole “can create anything imaginable” aspect of the character.

  • Toneloak

Yeah there is no point to this game if it’s not Green Scribblenauts a 3D RPG. Sorry

  • TheBoyWonder

Well, that plot sure isn’t a weak one. Killowag can just tell us what’s happening! Why should you show and not just tell?!

  • Tony

Does anyone know if this game allows you to create your own Lantern or if you have to be Hal?
