Sony Snags Zombies Vs. Robots

Sony Pictures has acquired the film rights to Zombies Vs. Robots, the IDW Publishing comic by Chris Ryall and Ashley Wood, for Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes.

Deadline reports the comic serves as the basis for a script from J.T. Petty (The Burrowers, Batman Begins video game) called Inherit the Earth. The film will be a co-production between Platinum Dunes, Circle of Confusion and IDW Publishing.

Debuting in 2006, Zombies Vs. Robots is set on a post-apocalyptic Earth overrun by zombies whose only chance of recovery is a team of robots that must protect and clone the last surviving human baby. It’s unknown how Inherit the Earth differs from the original premise.

This is Wood’s third IDW project in development: Jerry Bruckheimer acquired the rights to World War Robot in 2009, while Circle of Confusion and Mad Chance picked up Lore in July.
