Syfy Announces Return Dates For Stargate Universe And Sanctuary

Syfy has unveiled its spring premiere schedule, giving fans of Stargate Universe a concrete date to begin the countdown to the finale.

The series will return Monday, March 7, at 10 p.m. ET/PT for its final 10 episodes, which pick up with the crew of the Destiny in a battle with a drone command ship and the surprise arrival of the aliens that abducted Dr. Nicholas Rush (Robert Carlyle) and Chloe (Elyse Levesque).

The third installment in MGM’s Stargate franchise — following Stargate SG-1 and Stargate AtlantisSGU premiered in October 2009. Syfy announced in December that it wouldn’t renew the show for a third season.

The cable channel did, however, renew Sanctuary, which premieres the first of 10 new episodes on Friday, April 15, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. It picks up from the mid-season finale, with the team at the mercy of Ranna (Polly Walker). The series returns for its fourth season in the fall.

Stargate Universe is the best Stargate followup effort mainly because it took a more serious approach. If it had only resolved the lost in space theme and gave the reason for the ship flying in space, and thus a purpose for it to need a crew it could have gone on longer. There are always flaws but there was some fine acting and I was beginning to look forward to it. On the other hand Sanctuary is a mess and not worth any serious consideration. How about remaking the bristish mini series Ultraviolet with as much of the original cast as possible. There’s a hit waiting though knowing Syfy they’ld take the cheap way as usual and ruin it.

looking to see how the Sanctuary crew gets out of their mess. stargate sci fi is just bringing it back to finish running the franchise into the ground.

This Is stupid. SGU is the best stargate yet, i have liked all three but this is the first one where you never want to miss the next episode. i hope there is another station smart enough to pick this show up. i am lost as to why they would renew Sanctuary but not stargate. Sanctuary is a terrble show in comparison to stargate. I only watched it because of amanda Tapping. Because of her acting on stargate.

Syfy got greedy. Atlantis averaged 1.8 Million viewers its last season, while SGU has only been seeing 1-1.2. They should have stuck with Atlantis.

It’s too bad about SGU but I’m glad Sanctuary is still going. Part of the reason for that is because of how cost effective it is to make and while I don’t think the artificial backgrounds work well in most shows, I think they’re great for Sanctuary. And now that I upgraded my equipment to high definition the special effects look even better. Being a DISH Network employee I don’t know why I waited so long to upgrade my equipment. But now that I did I absolutely love it. I certainly recommend it to anyone who is still using legacy standard definition equipment, you won’t regret it.
