A Sneak Peek At This Week’s Supernatural, ‘The French Mistake’

This week Supernatural takes a turn for the meta with “The French Mistake,” an episode that sees the civil war in Heaven heat and the brothers Winchester thrust into an alternate universe where they’re the stars of a television show called … Supernatural.

It sounds a little like the Season 5 episode “Changing Channels,” in which Sam and Dean are trapped in a series of TV shows, but the official description lets us in on some significant, and potentially hilarious, differences:

SAM AND DEAN ARE TRANSPORTED TO AN ALTERNATE REALITY – Raphael (guest star Lanette Ware) launches an attack on Castiel (Misha Collins) and his allies, sending a particularly frightening angelic hitman (guest star Carlos Sanz) after Balthazar (guest star Sebastian Roche), Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles). In an effort to protect the brothers, Balthazar sends them to an alternate universe where they are the stars of a TV show called “Supernatural” and they are actors named “Jensen Ackles” and “Jared Padalecki.” The brothers are confused when Castiel appears to be a tweet-happy actor named Misha Collins and Sam is married to Ruby (Genevieve Cortese). Charles Beeson directed the episode written by Ben Edlund.

Supernatural airs Friday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

You know, one of the things I love about “Supernatural” is how it mocks itself without getting TOO stupid. But I think this might be getting a LITTLE too “meta.”

I really like the variety offered by Supernatural. The writers have more imagination and originality. I watch a lot of tv and it bores me when a tv show gets cliched. Supernatural is capable of surprising me.
