Bobby Farrelly: Dumb & Dumber Sequel ‘Ball Is In Motion’

 

Well. Another Dumb & Dumber sequel. Who’d have thought it?

While promoting last week’s release, Hall Pass, writer/director/producer and Dumber co-creator Bobby Farrelly confirmed to Moviehole that sequel plans are in the works and the hope is to bring back the original stars.

“[Dumb & Dumber] has run a bunch of times on TV in the states, and kids will come up and they’ll be able to quote lines from that – lines that I’ve long forgotten,” he said.

“If we could get those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels that might be a worthwhile sequel – and that ball is in motion. We’re starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing 20 years later in life, and hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel.”

So there’s that. I’m not sure how I feel about it. Much as I hate to say it, the Farrelly brothers have lost some of the edge that characterized their work on There’s Something About Mary and the original Dumb & Dumber. I haven’t seen Hall Pass yet, but they are producing a sketch-comedy movie for Relativity that is said to be in the vein of Kentucky Fried Movie, which is the sort of comedy we see too little of these days. Perhaps another Dumber with Carrey and Daniels doing their thing could recapture that magic. Or it could be a train wreck.
