Cleveland Calls In The Avengers

Only a week after a report emerged that Marvel withdrew The Avengers from Michigan over questions about state tax incentives, it appears that Cleveland has made a bid for part of the movie.
The Plain Dealer reports that Gov. John Kasich revealed he’s been working with city officials to bring part of the shoot to Cleveland. Well, he didn’t actually say it’s The Avengers, but all the clues are there: a $40 million Marvel/Disney superhero movie that was supposed to be filmed in Michigan. So, yeah, The Avengers.
The $40 million figure probably refers to the budget for that part of the production or, more likely, how much the shoot is expected to bring into the local economy. The bulk of The Avengers will be filmed at Albuquerque Studios in New Mexico and at other locations throughout the state before moving to New York and, until last week, Michigan.
The Joss Whedon-directed film, which is expected to begin production in April, stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg. It opens on May 4, 2012.
